The VISTA will help Backroads by developing relations with Berea College to expand the method for measuring the economic impact of the Backroads programs and secondly being the coordinator for "Appalachian Table Tales," a new program to help communities promote their stories to increase tourism. Through Table Tales, communities will receive help in organizing events to capture local history and then receive training on how to digitally tell their stories. Once tourists know how unique and exciting their community is it will attract people across the nation to have a one of a kind experience. This will attract more tourists, partners, and sponsors, which will allow Backroads to expand to serve more people in addiction recovery with training to help them gain good jobs, and help serve more small businesses by boosting tourism. Table Tales has been created to help communities that are on the Backroad's trails highlight their communities to bring more tourists to each former coal town.
