Clemson University Libraries is seeking a Digital Collections Archivist to lead and manage the collection, transfer, storage, description, and preservation of born-digital and digitized materials. This role involves developing workflows, policies, and procedures to facilitate these tasks and collaborating with colleagues on digital archiving projects. The position is tenure-track and accountable to the Head of Special Collections and Archives, with responsibilities spanning librarianship, scholarship, and service.

  • Collaborates with Special Collections and Archives colleagues to appraise, process, and describe donations that include born-digital and/or digitized materials
  • Prioritizes processing for digital materials and creates and updates finding aids for digital and digitized materials to facilitate preservation, retrieval, and access
  • Coordinates the transfer of digital and digitized material from current and legacy media formats and uses forensic and other tools to ensure authenticity, fixity, preservation, and access
  • Manages departmental digitization work, including creating and monitoring processes and workflows, and liaises with colleagues in the Digitization Lab to coordinate scanning projects
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the management of born digital and digitized materials held in the department
  • Leads the department's web archiving activities
  • In collaboration with Libraries colleagues, maintains the department's content management system
  • Contributes to Library wide digital projects and digital preservation efforts
  • Promotes the university's history through reference, research, publication, and instruction
  • Engages in professional development such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions
  • Develops a focused program of high-quality research and creative accomplishments, consistent with professional responsibilities and the libraries' missions and goals
  • Actively participates and demonstrates leadership in professional responsibilities that serve Libraries, University, profession, and community.
  • An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship or other relevant graduate degree in another scholarly field as deemed appropriate by the Libraries
  • One year experience working in an archives or special collections environment, including digitization projects and working with digital archives
  • Demonstrated experience using archival collection management software
  • Knowledge of tools and software that capture, manage, and deliver born-digital and digitized materials
  • Evidence of knowledge of current trends in the archival profession, particularly in relation to born digital and digitized content
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within, and across, teams
  • Experience in an academic or research library/archives
  • Society of American Archivists Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Certificate
  • Knowledge of digital archiving tools such as BitCurator, ePadd
  • Knowledge of digital preservation tools such as Archivematica, Preservica, Archive-It
  • Knowledge of web-publishing platforms such as Omeka
  • Experience processing archival collections and creating finding aids
  • Knowledge of OAIS and NDSA digital preservation standards
  • Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills
  • Experience or working knowledge of ArchivesSpace
  • Training and/or supervisory experience
  • Minimum salary of $70,000 based on qualifications and experience
