About The Position

The Digital Archivist at Ohio University Libraries plays a crucial role in advancing the University's initiatives through digital stewardship, focusing on digital archiving, preservation, and electronic records management. This position is integral to managing born digital content across various collections and supports the integration of these archives into teaching, learning, and research activities. The archivist will collaborate with colleagues from different departments to enhance the accessibility and scholarly use of the university's collections.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.S./M.L.I.S.) from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of tools and software for managing born-digital records.
  • Familiarity with standards for archival description and preservation such as DACS, EAD, METS, and PREMIS.
  • Experience with archival processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an academic or research library.
  • Experience with digital preservation tools such as Preservica, Bitcurator, and Archive-It.
  • Experience with digital asset and archival management systems such as ArchivesSpace and CONTENTdm.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of collegiality, respect, and trust.
  • SAA Digital Archives Specialist certificate.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethics related to digital archives and digitization activities.
  • A commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a collaborative approach to managing born digital content across collections.
  • Acquire, appraise, and accession born digital materials across archives and special collections.
  • Support the long-term accessibility and integrity of digital materials by addressing file format obsolescence and media decay.
  • Develop, implement, and document policies and workflows for the management of born digital materials.
  • Create and manage descriptive, administrative, and technical metadata for born digital assets.
  • Facilitate teaching, learning, and research with born digital primary resources in collaboration with library colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the University Archivist and records manager to support the retention of born digital University Records.
  • Advise and support colleagues on the ethics of digital archives and digitization activities.
  • Provide archival processing assistance for mixed format collections as necessary.
  • Engage in professional development related to job functions.
