About the position

The Digital Archivist at Western University of Health Sciences is responsible for the leadership and management of electronic records and existing collections, including institutional records, publications, and digital images. This role involves overseeing the ingestion, annotation, metadata schema, authority control, storage, preservation, and access of digital assets, ensuring effective management and preservation of digital content.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage digital collections by establishing the metadata schema and controlled vocabularies.
  • Develop and implement workflows for the acquisition, description, access, management, and preservation of digital content.
  • Create policies and procedures for managing the digital asset management infrastructure.
  • Assist with the preservation of photographs and negatives, including selection criteria and storage.
  • Develop working relationships with records creators for the transfer of electronic records to the university archives.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for research assistance from the campus community.

Requirements

  • A Master's in Library Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited program or a graduate degree in history with coursework in archival administration/theory.
  • Experience working with digital asset management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in archival administration and implementation of policies for stewardship of digital material.
  • Experience in creating metadata descriptions and digitization of born-digital materials.
  • Experience working with CONTENTdm.
  • Digital Archives specialist Certificate from the Society of American Archivists.
