About The Position

Provides, directs, and coordinates activities of nutrition care to patients/clients, integrates them with other facets of health care, and assures compliance with standards of practice and regulatory requirements. PERFORMANCE DUTIES MAY INCLUDE: Provide basic, intermediate, or comprehensive nutritional care for patients/clients at low, moderate, or high nutrition risk as identified by RN or physician referral. Develop, implement, and document nutrition care plans for patients at risk and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition intervention. Select and/or develop appropriate instructional teaching aides and provide effective diet counseling and education. Co-ordinate and integrate nutrition care services with other facets of health care, interacting with M.D.'s and other health care professionals in interdisciplinary meetings, medical rounds, committees, etc. Develop and provide nutrition education programs in hospital and community settings. Act as adjunct instructor for dietetic students. Provide and in-service and nutrition education for employees and health team members. Pursue continual self-development to improve knowledge and skills and maintain A.D.A. registration. Apply findings of current research and investigation to the practice of dietetics. Attend required meetings and participate in work groups as necessary. Maintain all required records, reports, and statistics. May provide Cerner system training to new and current associates as required upon hire and/or changes that occur, i.e., system tables, upgrades, etc. May work closely with the pharmacists monitoring and adjusting TPN solutions daily. May provide resolution/troubleshoot and recommend solutions to peers and related associates involving activities of nutrition care. In accordance with unit or departmental practice, determines that appropriate charges have been entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, with any required modifiers. Make corrections as needed per charge capture policy/practice. In accordance with unit or departmental practice, actively participates in on-going education and communication regarding revenue management. In accordance with unit or departmental practice, assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit. Requests services for maintaining equipment as needed. In accordance with unit or departmental practice, proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with major in Foods and Nutrition or a closely related field or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Commision of Dietetic Registration.
  • Current Heart Saver (HS) certification.
  • Technical, human relations, conceptual and management skills and the ability to apply principles of dietetics and nutrition in a variety of formats.
  • Able to perform duties within the guidelines of the American Dietetics Association practice standards.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

  • One year full time professional dietetics experience preferred.
