About The Position

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Dietitian to support their team! This position is considered Flex Full-time and requires working a minimum of 28 hours per week but can flex hours up to 40 hours. The schedule will work daylight hours and offers flexible shift times. This schedule also requires working rotating weekends and holidays. Our Recruitment team will work with you to determine the best title and pay rate based on your experience and education. The requirements for Dietitian as well as Dietitian II are listed below with the corresponding minimum pay rates. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • For individuals who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) certification prior to January 1, 2026, a bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics is required.
  • For individuals who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) certification on or after January 1, 2026, a master's degree in a Nutrition or Dietetics is required.
  • Analytical skills to accurately assess, plan, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Strong nutrition education/counseling and mentoring skills.
  • Critical thinking skills for sound decision making.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) within 9 months of hire.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) within 6 months of hire.
  • For Dietitian II: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with Registered Dietitian certification obtained before January 1, 2026 with 2 years clinical nutrition experience required.
  • For Dietitian II: Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with Registered Dietitian certification obtained on or after January 1, 2026 with 1 year of clinical nutrition experience required.
  • Driver's License (for Dietitian II).

Responsibilities

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
  • Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
  • As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications.
  • As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
  • Participate in department based Quality Process Improvement activities with an ability to actively endorse evidence based practice.
  • Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
  • Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
  • Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
  • Provide in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department or facility level.
  • Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement.
  • Lead one department initiative annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
