Mission Cancer + Blood, part of University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Dietician I or Dietician II to provide specialized oncology nutrition assessment, counseling, and medical nutrition therapy for patients in an outpatient oncology practice; collaborate with the clinical care team to manage treatment-related side effects, malnutrition, and enteral nutrition needs; and ensure timely documentation and coordination of nutrition services to support patient outcomes and practice operations. The department intends to hire one candidate from either Dietician I classification or Dietician II classification (Req: 26001914) based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates registered prior to January 01, 2024, a Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics is required.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated competency of patient care in pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations across a wide range of medical conditions in the inpatient and outpatient setting is desirable.
  • Experience in making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive nutrition assessments for oncology patients throughout active treatment and survivorship
  • Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans aligned with diagnosis, treatment plan, and patient goals
  • Provide evidence-based nutrition counseling for treatment-related side effects (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, mucositis, taste changes, fatigue, cachexia)
  • Monitor patient progress, adjust interventions as needed, and provide follow-up care
  • Assess need for enteral nutrition and recommend appropriate feeding regimens
  • Educate patients and caregivers on tube feeding administration, safety, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate enteral nutrition supplies and formulas with DME vendors
  • Monitor tolerance, adherence, and outcomes related to enteral nutrition
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, nursing, social work, and other support services
  • Serve as a nutrition resource to clinical staff and leadership
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and quality initiatives
  • Document nutrition assessments and interventions in the electronic medical record in accordance with practice standards
  • Ensure documentation supports appropriate coding and billing for nutrition services
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements
  • Develop and maintain patient education materials related to oncology nutrition
  • Contribute to quality improvement, patient experience, and outcomes initiatives
  • Support practice goals related to comprehensive, value-based oncology care
