Provide nutrition counseling to students regarding specific health/nutritional needs such as, but not limited to dietary changes, disordered eating or eating disorders, weight management, sports performance, mindful and intuitive eating, food allergies etc. Support healthy lifestyle choices and health maintenance throughout the campus community by creating and implementing campus-wide nutrition and body image initiatives in collaboration with other departments. Provide ongoing, accurate nutrition information using current technology/social media. Supervision of students/interns or staff working for nutrition services may be required. Other duties include teaching nutrition related topics to informal groups or in a classroom setting along with design and development of new educational initiatives, well versed with development of health-related social media messages as well as development of nutrition information for our website.

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, interpret biochemical and clinical data, and monitor those at nutritional risk, with an emphasis on higher risk populations such as eating disorders.
  • Make appropriate notations and recommendations in the student’s electronic medical record.
  • Design, plan, discuss and implement nutritional/behavioral recommendations to meet nutritional and psychological needs of the student.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of nutrition recommendations and modify or revise as needed.
  • Participate in university and student organized health events and collaborate with clinical and other campus affiliated groups on preventative healthcare topics.
  • Work with Dining services to provide collaborative Dining/Nutrition initiatives.
  • Develop, organize, participate and assess effectiveness of nutrition-themed health promotion events.
  • Manage electronic information distribution: website/social media and communication of nutrition services materials.
  • Ensure accuracy and relevance of information that is on website.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet departmental, division and university goals and objectives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition with master’s degree either in nutrition or related field.
  • Must be licensed in the state of North Carolina and Registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (LDN, RDN).
  • None required beyond education/training.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience post master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and planning skills, group facilitation and writing skills.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Clinical skills: ability to apply current evidenced-based nutrition recommendations and experience with working those struggling with eating issues.
  • Experience in motivational interviewing or health coaching and non-diet approach to weight management.
  • Adheres to deadlines and exhibits strong organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and passion for the field of nutrition.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, while also being able to work independently.
