About The Position

The Dietitian Assistant II is responsible for nutrition screening, calculating intake records, providing basic patient educations, and serving as a liaison between the Patient Food Service and Clinical Nutrition departments. Other duties function to support the Clinical Dietitians and their patient care activities. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Nutrition or related field
  • High School Graduate

Nice To Haves

  • Patient care experience, particularly in a hospital or long-term care setting
  • Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

Responsibilities

  • Performs timely nutrition screening using departmental criteria to identify patients at nutrition risk.
  • Evaluates patient intake records and uses appropriate resources to accurately calculate daily patient intakes as per departmental guidelines.
  • Assesses patient learning needs, barriers to learning, and preferred learning styles.
  • Provides appropriate education to patients on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to: stroke, heart failure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, neutropenia, and lithium food/drug interaction.
  • Performs indirect calorimetry measurements as appropriate and when ordered by a physician or dietitian.
  • Documents all care in the electronic medical record as per departmental guidelines.
  • Manages enteral formulary stock, evaluates patient care unit par stocks, and orders product as appropriate to ensure adequate enteral stock with focus on cost control and waste reduction.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing and other staff to complete patient care activities.
  • Serves as liaison between Patient Food Service and Clinical Nutrition departments. This includes orientation, training, and ongoing interaction with Nutrition Assistants and Call Center staff.
  • Participates in departmental activities to facilitate patient care and operations including participation in quality focus teams, committees, recipe tasting, and revisions/updates to department policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
