About The Position

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated, detailed orientated individual to serve as Qualified Dietitian1 within the Division of Field Operations. This individual will conduct progressively responsible dietary surveys to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulations at long-term care facilities and hospitals including standardization, state licensure, federal certification and complaint surveys. The Dietitian 1 will provide expertise on issues involving nutrition and is responsible for preparing written survey documentation, testifying in court and performing monitoring functions. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, supplemented by a master’s degree in nutrition, dietetics or food service management, preferably including registration by the American Dietetic Association and possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered Dietitian.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related polices and guidance.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience as a Dietitian.
  • One (1) year experience conducting the survey process effectively and efficiently, including the evaluation of the environment, records and care and service delivered by the long-term care provider, identifying areas of non-compliance, problems and discrepancies, and determining possible resolution or action.
  • One (1) year work experience in Microsoft Word, processing, and spreadsheet applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel PowerPoint, Smartsheet).
  • One (1) year experience establishing and maintain effective working relationships with professional personnel, supervisors, peers, the general public and consumers.
  • One (1) year experience preparing complex written and oral reports.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality during the conduct of the survey process.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, surveys long term care facilities to determine compliance with state licensure requirements, federal certification mandates, and Department directives, program policies and procedures.
  • Conducts standardization surveys in the area of nutritional concepts applicable to health care facilities to ensure consistency of technical interpretations.
  • As a member of the health facility survey team, explains and outlines deficiencies.
  • Completes necessary surveyor training.
  • Participates in staff meetings and assist with orientation of newly employed health facilities surveillance nurses and other Department staff as directed.
  • Under the direction of Regional Manager, assists in moving residents to other facilities in decertification or emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the responsibilities enumerated above.
