About The Position

The Dietary Supervisor position at Eastern Long Island Hospital requires assisting the Director of Nutritional Services with both clinical and administrative functions of the Nutritional Services Department. Responsibilities include obtaining diet history for special patient menus, counseling diabetic patients and others with dietary needs, supervising food preparation, and gathering patient feedback on food service quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Suffolk County Department of Health Food Manager Certification or equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Culinary Arts or Nutrition.
  • Ability to type 25 words per minute.
  • One (1) year work and/or educational experience in small quantity food service or dietetics is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic diets and the ability to use the diet manual as a resource.
  • Oversees the accuracy of therapeutic diets and recipes.
  • Performs meal rounds and patient surveys as requested.
  • Maintains the patient cardex.
  • Assists in hiring, interviewing, counseling, and termination of employees as needed.
  • Tallies production and nourishment sheets accurately.
  • Accurately enters data into the computer system.
  • Answers phones and relays messages to designated persons.
  • Accurately records meal count.
  • Monitors quality of menu items and accuracy of service on the tray line and records food temperatures, menu substitutions, overages, and shortages.
  • Oversees cooks and dietary aides and advises or counsels employees as necessary.
  • Monitors employees to assure adherence to sanitation and infection control policies.
  • Monitors the receiving and storage of foods.
  • Observes use of small and large equipment to ensure adherence to proper procedure.
  • Purchases food and non-food supplies as needed and maintains proper inventory levels.
  • Performs on-the-job training of new employees.
  • Effectively schedules employees and performs payroll as necessary.
  • Distributes menus and assists patients in selecting food items.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Maintains ethical relationships.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Participates in in-service programs.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.
