The Dietary Server (PRN) position involves ensuring patients receive their meals accurately and promptly while adhering to strict food safety and sanitation guidelines. Key responsibilities include checking patient statuses (NPO, admissions, diet changes), collecting and completing menus, entering meal orders, and delivering trays. The role requires reading menus to patients as needed, communicating special patient needs to nursing and dietitians, and managing unit floor supplies by creating lists based on par levels. Additionally, the server is responsible for organizing and cleaning patient refrigerators, discarding outdated or unlabeled items, and reporting pertinent information to the Diet Office Operators. The position also entails collecting dirty trays from units, bringing them to the dishroom, documenting patient intake (fluids, carbohydrates, calorie counts), and breaking down trays for washing. Assembling and delivering floor stock orders for assigned units is also a part of the role. Emphasis is placed on timely meal delivery, monitoring and reporting delays, ensuring trays are covered, carefully pouring hot beverages, and maintaining cleanliness of unit kitchens, including refrigerators, freezers, and microwaves. Proper wrapping, labeling, and dating of items, frequent hand washing, and adherence to isolation precautions and personal protective equipment usage are mandatory. The server also coordinates menus with patients' families when direct patient participation in room service is not possible.
