At Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond, healing is our focus. The position involves directing and managing the daily operations of the nutrition services department including staffing, training, budget compliance, procurement, production, service, and regulatory compliance. If the hospital is using an outside nutrition services vendor for meal service, the role includes coordinating preparation and delivery of food for patient meals and ensuring appropriate menus are served according to diet orders and in compliance with current regulations. All duties are to be performed in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures, and PI Standards.

  • Direct and manage the daily operations of the hospital's nutrition services department.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures and make recommendations for revision as indicated.
  • Implement Continuous Quality Improvement Procedures for the hospital's Nutrition Services Department.
  • Participate in the hospital QAPI committee, Infection Control Committee, Utilization Review Committee, Safety Committee and/or other committees assigned.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with food safety/sanitation standards, including maintaining records.
  • Ensure patient menus are approved by the registered dietitian and are correctly followed by staff.
  • Communicate dietary needs and consult with registered dietitian.
  • Assure delivery of appropriate nutritional care and maintain patient satisfaction with food service.
  • Procure food and nutrition supplies from approved sources.
  • Maintain appropriate stock for patient nutrition care including meals, snacks, and supplementation.
  • Demonstrate understanding of departmental budget and manage effectively.
  • Act as the department liaison with other departments/vendors to ensure adequate nutrition care.
  • Keep current on all meal censuses, diet orders/change orders.
  • Develop and manage nutrition service personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Experience in managing nutrition services in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Registered Dietitian credentialing is a plus.
  • Experience with Continuous Quality Improvement procedures.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission standards.
