Summary; Prepares and cooks meals for residents and by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous cook experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers all food needed for mealtime and reports any shortages to Food Service Director.
  • Plates all food items for residents and staff.
  • Prepares various foods depending on the menu created by the dieticians for each meal of the day, following federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operates various kitchen equipment in preparation for the meal, e.g., mixer, meat slicer, oven, steamer, etc.
  • Serves meals in a safe manner and follows all requirements.
  • Directs activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
  • Accurately follows diet cards when serving residents.
  • Takes and documents food temperatures.
  • Cleans kitchen and all kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in putting away of dietary stock and rotation of dietary supplies.
  • Keeps all coolers clean and organized, including checking expiration dates.
  • Follows portion control guidelines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident, staff, and organization information.
