About The Position

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Caritas House is currently seeking a Dietary Assistant, who plays a key role in supporting patients within a healthcare facility to maintain a healthy diet. Primary responsibilities include assisting with food service assembly, ensuring dishes are prepared in accordance with the designated menu, and upholding health and sanitation standards. The work schedule is part time, every other weekend, 11AM-7PM. Caritas House is a community for seniors that provides additional services that help our residents remain independent and safe. Our dining program provides our residents with three meals a day and access to healthy snack options. The Dietary Assistant helps prepare the dining areas for meals and ensures the residents' needs are being met during mealtimes. The position offers opportunities to learn food safety and food preparation techniques.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of procedures that adhere to Serve Safe standards, ensuring compliance with all safety and sanitation guidelines and taking accountability for maintaining a safe environment.
  • One (1) year experience in institutional healthcare service.
  • Serve-safe certified or become certified within 6 months of employment.
  • Demonstrates accountability by consistently being punctual and maintaining reliable attendance.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills with a courteous and professional demeanor towards staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers by following established safety protocols, promptly addressing hazards, and promoting a culture of accountability to ensure the well-being of all individuals in the workplace.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of safety hazards and ensures the proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions to maintain a safe environment.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, or other similar structures as required to perform job tasks.
  • Positioning oneself in ways to accomplish tasks in various environments, including navigating tight or confined spaces as needed to complete job responsibilities.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, which may involve standing or sitting for extended periods, as required to complete tasks or duties associated with the role.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50lbs in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Engaging in communication with others to exchange information, which may involve speaking, listening, writing, or using electronic communication methods to ensure clear and effective understanding. This includes both verbal and non-verbal interactions with colleagues, clients, or external parties.
  • Hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction, sufficient to drive safely and effectively observe and communicate with others.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to prepare, serve, and manage meal distribution according to residents’ dietary needs.
  • Ensures proper food handling and sanitation while assisting with mealtime requirements as needed.
  • Takes responsibility for promptly reporting any discrepancies or issues related to food temperature to the Dining Services Supervisor, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Adheres to dietary restrictions, setting up dining areas to ensure all tasks are completed with attention to detail and ready for proficient service.
  • Finalizes food temperature logs, ensuring compliance with all safety standards.
  • Ensures all health and safety protocols are followed to maintain a clean and sanitary environment, this includes practicing proper handwashing techniques and maintaining high standards of personal hygiene, correctly utilizing PPE like, gloves, hairnets, and other attire as required.
  • Follows established cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contamination and ensure the proper storage and handling of food items.
  • Implement food safety protocols, such as proper temperature control for perishable goods, washing hands frequently, and using gloves when necessary.
  • Certifies that food preparation areas, dishwashing areas, and food delivery stations, food storage areas, including freezers and refrigerators, are kept clean, well-organized, and properly arranged in accordance with established department guidelines.
  • Fosters a positive and cooperative working relationship with all staff at Caritas House and other Agency programs to ensure seamless food service operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
