The Dietary Aide performs various duties associated with the production and service of patient meals. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive their meals in a timely and safe manner, while also maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the dietary department.

  • Demonstrate qualities of being a self-starter and make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Understand and comply with all regulations affecting dietary including patient care, sanitation, labor, fire, safety, and disaster.
  • Assist in maintaining the dietary department in a safe, secure, and sanitary manner.
  • Use good judgment in conserving supplies and preventing food waste.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies properly.
  • Scrape, stack, wash, and sanitize dishes, flatware, utensils, pots/pans, etc.
  • Transport and store dishes and utensils properly.
  • Clean and sanitize the dish machine and dish room.
  • Assist cook in preparing and serving foods for all diets according to planned menus.
  • Communicate and cooperate with staff, patients, and their families.
  • Set up trays for service and check trays for accuracy before delivery.
  • Bus tables in the dining room and clean/sanitize table tops.
  • Attend in-service and other necessary training.
  • Supervise in the Dietary Department in the absence of management.
  • Adhere to the dress code for the department.
  • Sincere interest in foodservice and enjoyment of working with geriatric and healthcare patients.
  • Willingness to learn food preparation and simple cooking skills.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn therapeutic and modified diet information.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn correct sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks daily.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
  • Ability to read and understand labels on chemicals and MSDS sheets.
  • Good mental and physical condition.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and productively with all partners in Dietary.
  • Willingness to fulfill responsibilities and be punctual.
  • May require a Food Handlers Certificate or Sanitation Course.
  • Training in Food and Nutrition
