About The Position

The position involves assisting in the preparation and serving of food, as well as cleaning the dietary area, equipment, and dishware under general supervision. The employee will also be responsible for training new employees as directed by the supervisor and ensuring compliance with Infection Control Guidelines. It is essential to notify the supervisor when supplies are running low.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Some knowledge of basic nutrition, dietary operations, and appliances.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions with minimal supervision.
• Fluency in reading, writing, and understanding the English language.
• Basic math skills for simple arithmetic.
• Ability to handle stress.
• Physical presence on-site is required.

Nice To Haves

• Some experience in food preparation and basic nutrition preferred.
• Attendance at mandatory in-service training.

Responsibilities

• Assists cook in minor preparation of foods such as gelatin, salads, and dressing.
• Prepares food items like toast and sandwiches, and cleans and chops fruits and vegetables.
• Portions food for service.
• Prepares food setup for snacks, requisitions, and special events.
• Serves residents in partnership with nursing staff on the units.
• Sets up and serves on the tray line and in unit dining rooms.
• Wraps, labels, and stores leftovers properly.
• Operates various kitchen appliances including mixer, blender, chopper, VCM, and slicer.
• Cleans the kitchen and equipment, including sweeping and mopping the floor.
• Reports any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
• Reports any supply shortages to the supervisor.
• Performs dish machine operations including scraping, feeding, rack out, trucks, and runners; returns cleaned dishware to the proper location.
