About The Position

The Diet Clerk is at the forefront of customer service, providing Orlando Health patients and guests with service above and beyond expectations to ensure a memorable food and dining experience.

Requirements

  • One (1) year experience in food service or in an office clerical position

Responsibilities

  • Provides food service to patients as assigned by Team Leader.
  • Monitors patient diet prescription, diet order changes, nourishment orders, late tray requests and quality standards.
  • Accurately checks patient meal choices according to physician diet orders.
  • Adheres to patient’s food allergies, intolerance’s and food preferences in a timely fashion. Knowledgeable of nutritional meal patterns and able to modify diets accordingly.
  • Tally special food orders as needed.
  • Responsible for operation of the hospital’s computer systems and understands operation of the fax machine.
  • Communicates proper information regarding patients to the Food & Nutrition Leadership team, Clinical Nutrition team, Nursing, food service peers or ancillary team members as needed.
  • Interacts cooperatively and constructively with patients, staff and guests communicating in an open, honest, gracious and compassionate manner at all times, including person to person, telephone and written forms.
  • Promotes a positive impression of the Food and Nutrition department.
  • Performs as a team member with peers.
  • Interact appropriately with a culturally diverse population.
  • Follows chain of command when communicating departmental and individual concerns or problems.
  • Models essential service behaviors, such as excellent communication and customer service skills with patients, nursing staff, team members and visitors.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and all related in-services and Performance Improvement activities.
  • Observes all departmental rules and regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of Patient Satisfaction goals. Work consistently to exceed the department’s and Orlando Health’s objectives by reporting concerns and suggesting creative ideas.
  • Recognizes priority and protects the patient’s right to confidentiality.
  • Refers patient’s problems to the Food & Nutrition Leadership team or Clinical Nutrition team as needed.
  • Must be knowledgeable in preventing Food Borne Illnesses (F.B.I.) and Hazard Analysis Critical Points (HAACP) precautions as they apply to food services.
  • Aware of and follows all universal precautions as they apply to food in-services.
  • Recognizes that flexibility is paramount and change is continuous; the team member must embrace, encourage and drive change; approach situations and challenges with an open mind; work rotating shifts according to experience and business needs; be able and willing to be cross-trained in varied positions and performs any and all other duties as assigned.
