About The Position

UPMC Western Maryland is looking for a part-time Diet Clerk. If you're an experienced food service professional with great customer service skills, please apply today! The Diet Clerk role involves delivering and picking up meals, handling special requests, and providing in-between meal food delivery. Responsibilities include assisting with meal setup, ensuring patient satisfaction with meal services, and replenishing kitchen supplies daily. Additionally, the role requires recording intake and output (I&O) and calorie count information. Requirements

  • Must have a high school education.
  • Position requires a minimum of 6 months. If no candidates have the aforementioned job qualifications, then consideration will be given to a candidate who has one-year of acceptable healthcare food service experience.
  • Understanding of diet order/restrictions related to specific diets required.
  • Previous customer service required.
  • Must have an outgoing personality and able to deal with patients, visitors and staff in a positive, courteous, tactful and cooperative manner.
  • Computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out other related activities as requested by supervisor or Clinical Dietitians to ensure quality patient care.
  • Visit patients after tray delivery to ensure satisfaction with meals. Obtain any missing items and make item substitutes as needed following diet restrictions.
  • Deliver trays at meal times on assigned areas. Verify two patient identifiers prior to delivery. Hand isolation trays to nursing for delivery. Use correct hand sanitizing before and after tray delivery.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of diet office supplies.
  • Greet patients with a smile. Address patients professionally (by name) and respect privacy.
  • Answer telephone promptly and courteously, maintaining free-flowing accurate communication.
  • Print new ADT listing for their area of responsibility prior to meal delivery.
  • Receive and record on the attendance form information from Nutrition Services' personnel regarding sickness or lateness. Report information to employee's supervisor on duty.
  • Deliver patient supplies to floor kitchens and get form signed. Complete Patient Floor Stock Check Sheet and report any discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Inspect patient trays for accuracy and completeness.
  • Page supervisors and clinical dietitians when necessary to ensure timely relay of messages.
  • Pick up trays after patient completes meal. Empty all fluid containers before placing tray in cart for return. Ensure cart is empty of clean trays prior to placing any dirty trays.
