The position is for a Diesel Truck Mechanic at the railyard, responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems on a fleet of semi-trucks, trailers, and hostler vehicles. You will ensure all equipment is kept in top working condition by performing regular maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring safety standards are met at all times.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience working as a diesel mechanic, with experience on semi-trucks, trailers, or hostler vehicles.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and mechanical repairs, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work with schematics and troubleshoot electrical issues effectively.
  • Familiarity with maintenance scheduling systems and keeping accurate service records.
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work in all weather conditions.
  • Must own necessary tools for the job.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certification or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit diesel engines.
  • Experience with hostler trucks and terminal tractors.
  • Welding or fabrication skills a plus.
  • Experience working in an intermodal yard or rail yard environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit) to maintain optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems using schematics, ensuring all wiring and components are functioning correctly.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, and hostler trucks to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct full vehicle assessments and execute timely repairs on both scheduled and unscheduled service calls.
  • Maintain detailed service records of work completed, parts replaced, and maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and company standards.
  • Monitor and adhere to routine maintenance schedules, making sure all equipment receives necessary attention on time.
  • Communicate findings and repair needs effectively with the maintenance supervisor and team to prioritize and allocate resources appropriately.
