About The Position

The position involves performing a variety of essential job functions related to the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and other mechanical systems in trucks and trailers. The technician will be responsible for complying with safety standards and company SOPs, demonstrating proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various mechanical and electrical systems, and performing preventive maintenance services. The role requires the ability to work independently, mentor other technicians, and ensure compliance with DOT standards.

Requirements

  • 6 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational / Technical or certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Expert understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards, and industry practices.
  • Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components.
  • Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade required.
  • Clean MVR required and able to operate service truck preferred.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to recommend continuous improvement ideas.
  • Results oriented with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled conditions required.
  • Willingness to travel for training.
  • Must have own tools (hand and pneumatic) sufficient to do any job that is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational / Technical certification.
  • ASE Certification preferred.
  • 608/609 certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all safety and best practices and follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of diesel engines, power train, electrical systems, HVAC systems, steering systems, electronics, brake systems, suspension systems, and after treatment devices.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services on truck and trailing equipment.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for trade-ins and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Must be annual vehicle inspector certified and brake inspector certified (per DOT requirements).
  • Successfully demonstrate welding skills (mig, tig) in non-standard situations and on varying materials.
  • Use diagnostic software for Detroit DD15 engines and DEF/after treatment repairs.
  • Identify and perform warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
  • Use hand tools and power tools for repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper functioning.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Provide directions and repair instructions to mentor other technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT standards and document work completed.
  • Proficiently enter and process all transactions within the maintenance system.
  • Assist with fleet analyses and action development.
  • Complete or assist with miscellaneous projects as assigned.
