The Diesel Technician/Technician Apprentice at Freightliner of Savannah plays a vital role in maintaining and repairing trucks and trailers, ensuring they remain operational on the highways. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Knowledge of the English language including acceptable skills in spelling, meaning, and grammar.
  • Basic computer skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Complete set of tools in relation to skill level.
  • Ability and desire to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Positive attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a heavy truck service operation.
  • Detroit, Cummins, or Freightliner technical experience and certifications.
  • Commercial driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair all assigned repairs and perform maintenance operations within industry standard repair time guidelines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services including changing engine, transmission, or axle oil and filters, changing air filters and fuel filters, checking batteries, and lubricating components.
  • Conduct general vehicle inspections including brake systems, steering, wheels, and suspensions.
  • Communicate with Team Lead for work assignments and efficiently diagnose and repair assigned jobs.
  • Write complete and accurate repair stories containing the Complaint, Cause, and Correction.
  • Identify and determine parts required to complete repairs and prepare appropriate warranty documentation for warrantable repairs.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety, and road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper operation.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and proficiently, and operate basic shop equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
  • Follow company written processes relating to technician job duties and perform necessary training.
  • Travel as necessary to perform on-site repairs or attend training classes.
