Blue Bear Waste Services is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic in Denver, Colorado to help us deliver outstanding service! THE OPPORTUNITY The Diesel Mechanic ensures the safe, efficient, and timely maintenance and repair of Blue Bear Waste Service’s fleet of trucks, equipment, and containers. This role performs scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnoses issues across all major vehicle systems, collaborates with drivers and other mechanics, and ensures equipment is kept in optimal working condition to support reliable waste hauling operations. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all fleet vehicles per manufacturer recommendations. Complete routine repairs, including work on tires, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records for all vehicles and equipment in Company systems (currently Fleetio). Conduct routine inspections of major vehicle systems, including annual DOT inspections. Coordinate and collaborate with other company mechanics to ensure efficient workflow. Manage parts inventory, vendor relationships, and recommend new vendors as appropriate. Utilize the company’s Purchase Order (PO) system (currently bill.com) to purchase parts, schedule external repairs, and approve vehicle-related invoices. Maintain accurate inventory counts and participate in quarterly inventory reviews. Provide emergency roadside services, minor field repairs, and assist with vehicle recovery as needed. Perform final operational tests on all repaired equipment to ensure readiness. Safely use hand tools, power equipment, and diagnostic tools. Follow industry best-practice regulations and safety standards for repair shop operations. Assist with general facility maintenance. Report equipment abuse or neglect by driver team members to management. Collaborate with management on future equipment purchases and recommend improvements to the company's maintenance and repair program. Perform other related duties as assigned. WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred. Minimum 2 years of diesel mechanic experience required; waste industry experience preferred. Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance standards. Ability to use diagnostic equipment and maintenance software. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. CDL preferred but not required. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively. This role involves regular standing, lifting, bending, use of hand and power tools, and working in and around heavy equipment. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Work is performed in a shop environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
