About The Position

At Republic Services, Technicians are crucial for maintaining the performance and quality of the fleet. The Technician Apprenticeship program is designed to train entry-level technicians over a two-year period in various aspects of vehicle maintenance, including electrical diagnosis of starting & charging systems, air conditioning & heating component identification & inspection, wheel end assembly, air system, air brakes, hydraulics, and truck preventative maintenance. To succeed, an Apprentice needs to be a logical problem solver with an enthusiasm for vehicle engineering and a commitment to ongoing learning, aligning with the company's values. This career opportunity is available across the United States, allowing aspiring Technicians to earn while they learn. The Republic Services Technical Institute offers a unique learning and development environment where employees gain on-the-job work experience while completing their technician education. The training begins with nine weeks of company-paid, in-person instruction at the state-of-the-art Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas. Following this, successful graduates will continue with an additional twenty-two months of on-the-job training (OJT), which includes mentorship and virtual instructor-led technical content, working towards Apprentice certification as an entry-level Diesel Mechanic. Individuals demonstrating accelerated development and achieving required milestones can advance to a Level C Technician sooner. The Technical Institute also focuses on teaching critical life and leadership skills and building professional networks. Apprentices are supported by a dedicated Mentor and receive direct supervision from a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager upon placement in a business unit. Hands-on experience gained during the apprenticeship includes basic tire work, wheel end components, mechanic skills, and knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems, complementing their formal learning.
