About The Position

PITT OHIO, a high service transportation solutions provider offering SUPPLY CHAIN, LTL and TRUCKLOAD services is seeking a Diesel Technician- 2nd Shift with tractor and trailer repair experience at our Indianapolis, IN Terminal.

Requirements

  • Two years' verifiable experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair OR a technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience.
  • A valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug screen.
  • A CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required.
  • Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintain a variety of heavy trucks and semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment is required.
  • Basic hand tools are required.
  • Must have working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel engines and repair of heavy trucks.
  • Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to communicate to both internal and external customers.
  • Computer skills needed for diagnostics.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs fleet equipment safely and correctly.
  • Conducts failure analysis, repairs, and rebuilds fleet equipment components correctly.
  • Informs management about housekeeping opportunities, harmful working conditions, and unsafe work practices, and suggests corrective actions.
  • Identifies and informs management of broken tools and missing supplies required for performing repairs on fleet equipment, and takes steps to solve issue if possible.
  • Correctly completes work orders and documents.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Operates and inspects mechanical equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Analyzes malfunctions and performs general overhaul, tune up or preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Dismantles and reassembles equipment.
  • Plans work procedure using charges, technical manuals and experience.
  • Enters labor lines and parts into repair order computer system.
  • Travels to other company shop locations when staff is needed.
  • Reacts to change productivity and handles other essential tasks as assigned.
