About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic position at Dayton Freight Lines involves performing maintenance services that meet the company's quality and volume standards. The role requires understanding and troubleshooting diesel engine systems using ECM diagnostic programs and other techniques. Mechanics will diagnose, repair, and replace external engine components, test and repair truck chassis electrical systems, and develop skills in repairing major power and drive train components. The position also includes performing PM inspections, maintaining suspension and brake systems, and managing the tire maintenance program. Mechanics will be responsible for service calls, vehicle road tests, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards. Additionally, they will record all work in the EMS system and collaborate with the Parts Department to ensure proper inventory levels of necessary materials and supplies.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to pass a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance services on diesel engines according to company standards.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engine systems using ECM diagnostic programs.
  • Diagnose, repair, and replace external engine components.
  • Test and repair truck chassis electrical systems.
  • Develop skills in repairing major power and drive train components.
  • Perform PM inspections and services per company policy.
  • Repair, adjust, and align suspension and brake systems.
  • Maintain the tire maintenance program according to company policy.
  • Perform service calls as per guidelines.
  • Wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Conduct vehicle road tests to ensure quality repairs, if qualified.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and interact professionally with colleagues.
  • Participate in the upkeep of the shop and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment compliant with OSHA standards.
  • Record all work and labor in the EMS system.
  • Work with the Parts Department to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Comply with all Parts Department procedures.
