About The Position

Diesel Mechanic Shop Located in Ponca City, OK Position will be based in Ponca City but will be a mobile position with regular travel within the region (OK, KS, MO, AR) An employee of Shepherd Oil Company exemplifies our belief of "Where Service Matters." The Diesel Mechanic will play a key role in the safety and efficiency of operations in our transportation department. This person will maintain equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; and making necessary truck and trailer repairs, keeping records of all actions performed within our electronic records system. The ability to diagnose problems will be paramount to this person’s success. Also expected will be an organized system and documentation of ordering parts, storing common parts and supplies, and the ability to clearly communicate with others regarding vehicle needs and issues.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel, primarily regional (OK, KS, MO, AR), with some overnight travel included
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have own set of tools necessary to perform repairs
  • Pass a background check and drug test

Nice To Haves

  • ASE diesel certification preferred
  • Proven work history as a diesel mechanic
  • Experience working on Peterbilt trucks preferred
  • Peterbilt and Kenworth tanker trucks
  • Lead the effort to be proactive and provide preventive maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Position will be based in Ponca City but will be a mobile position with regular travel within the region (OK, KS, MO, AR)
  • Diagnose and repair all parts of the company equipment as may be required according to DOT standards
  • Diagnose any mechanical, electrical or other breakdown or failure to a truck, trailer or related equipment
  • Read precision instruments including electronic diagnostic tools
  • Perform inspections of equipment and repair as necessary
  • Communicate with drivers, dispatchers and management to determine which repairs are necessary, determine priority and provide estimated time of completion
  • Track parts usage to ensure the accurate inventory of all parts used in a repair
  • Maintain a clean, safe and efficient work area
  • Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA and OSHA rules and regulations
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements
  • Ensures services provided are in compliance with safety procedures, always making safety the top priority
  • Expected work week of approximately 50 hours. Base schedule of M-F 8a-5p with some hours outside of that range (evenings and/or weekends)
