The Diesel Truck Mechanic role is essential to the daily operations of our terminal and must have previous working knowledge of air brake systems, diesel engine diagnostics using Insite, hydraulic systems, electronic controls, electrical circuitry, schematics, and a basic knowledge of diesel engine repair.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Open availability (24/7/365) available to work nights, weekends, and holidays that fall on your rotation.
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Possess personal tools to perform light to medium repair
  • Experience with maintaining heavy equipment in either the Construction, Transportation, or Intermodal Industry
  • Must be willing to complete a drug screen, physical and background check
  • Ability to Commute: Detroit, MI 48223 (Required)
  • Ability to Relocate: Detroit, MI 48223: Relocate before starting work (Required)
  • Diesel Mechanic: 1 year (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Mi-Jack or Taylor Manufacture Brand experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow a checklist of inspection procedures
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment
  • Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions
  • Read and interpret diagnostic test results from diagnostic equipment such as Cummins Insite
  • Raise trucks, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles
  • Do routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts
  • Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment
  • Document repairs according to an established reporting system, verbally and in writing
  • Performs light welding when required
  • Other duties as assign
