As a Mechanic at GFL, you will: Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment Diagnose and troubleshoot engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, air brakes, and emissions systems Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards Utilize diagnostic software and tools to efficiently identify and resolve issues Maintain accurate service records and communicate repair needs clearly Work closely with operations and leadership to minimize downtime and maximize fleet reliability Follow all safety policies, procedures, and best practices Mechanic Levels Explained Mechanic C (Entry–Intermediate) Performs routine PMs and basic repairs Assists senior mechanics with complex diagnostics Growing skills in diesel systems, hydraulics, and electrical components Mechanic B (Experienced) Independently diagnoses and repairs most vehicle systems Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, and electrical systems Mentors junior mechanics and supports shop efficiency Mechanic A (Master Technician) Expert-level diagnostics and complex repairs Leads major overhauls and advanced troubleshooting Acts as a technical resource and mentor for the shop Helps drive safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience as a Diesel Mechanic (level based on skill and experience)
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air brakes
  • Ability to read and interpret diagnostic data and service manuals
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain, depending on location)

Nice To Haves

  • ASE certifications are a plus (and supported by GFL!)
