About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic Tech II position at Durham School Services involves diagnosing malfunctions and performing vehicle repairs on various systems including steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and engine components. The role requires maintaining a safe and compliant work area, conducting inspections, and ensuring that all repairs meet federal and local guidelines. The technician will also perform road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned, while maintaining records of time, parts used, and repairs conducted. The position emphasizes ethical practices and personal integrity, with a commitment to safety and quality service.

Requirements

• Minimum of two to four years Med/Hvy truck Fleet mechanic repair experience.
• Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills are a must.
• Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required.
• Previous fleet experience and familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
• Possess the recommended minimum Hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
• Ability to use good judgment and Decision Making skills.
• Valid applicable state license (CDL preferred).

Nice To Haves

• ASE Certification desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs on various systems.
• Test-drives vehicles to ensure repairs resolved the problem.
• Arranges for and obtains appropriate inspections and approval of all major repairs.
• Maintains a safe, clean, productive, and efficient work area.
• Identifies and reports any additional maintenance and/or repairs needed.
• Records time spent, parts used, and repairs conducted.
• Performs road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
• Advises Lead Technician of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices.
• Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity.
• Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
