About The Position

The M GD MAINTENANCE - MAALAEA Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt) JOB FUNCTION: Performs maintenance work, trouble analysis, and installation of medium and heavy diesel engines, related auxiliary equipment and instrumentation and controls. Assists in the maintenance of steam plant equipment as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Fundamental Responsibilities: As a Diesel Maintenance Mechanic at the maximum level, performs the following duties. As a Diesel Maintenance Mechanic at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training. Works from blueprints, manufacturer's instructions, written or oral instructions. Performs operational or overhaul maintenance, installation and trouble analysis on medium and heavy diesel engines, related auxiliary equipment and instrumentation and controls, including fault analysis of engines, governors, fuel, cooling and L.O. systems of complete diesel plants. Starts diesels as required for maintenance purposes. Identifies parts for replacement orders. Assists in mechanical maintenance and repair of steam plant equipment as conditions require. Uses hand and power tools and shop equipment as required, including precision tools such as micrometers, gauges, alignment instruments, etc. Does concrete work including the construction of forms, installation of steel, cement finishing of new capital construction projects, in addition to modifications or additions to existing plants. Performs general maintenance work on fences, property, buildings and structures, and fire fighting equipment; performs welding, cutting and pipefitting as required. Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts. Other Responsibilities: Assists in making timing and fuel injection adjustments to diesel equipment. Directs the work of lower classified personnel on any or all of the above operations. Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of applicable Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
  • Company Written Job Knowledge Test.
  • Ability to perceive colors necessary for the safe performance of duties. (i.e., primary colors sightedness, basic colors for driving)
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
