About The Position

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is on the lookout for a passionate, hands-on, high horsepower Tenure-Track Diesel Instructor to join our elite team of educators in the Applied Technologies Division. This position allows you to teach future diesel techs how to troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild everything from heavy-duty trucks to off-road equipment. You will develop cutting-edge curriculum that keeps up with industry trends and collaborate with a team of gearhead geniuses and academic pros to keep our program the best in the region. Teaching experience is a bonus, but not required. If you’ve trained new techs in the field, you’re halfway there!

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of employment in diesel/auto technology, or a comparable combination of education and work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in a Career-related field.
  • Formal training/experience in engines, drive train, brakes, suspension steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating, ventilation, A/C.
  • ASE Certification as Master or equivalent training in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Truck.
  • Six (6) years journeyman level employment in auto/diesel technology.
  • The equivalence of one (1) year of full-time secondary teaching experience in auto/diesel technology.
  • Understanding of career-technical education and programs.
  • Knowledge of the local and national job market requirements for a successful career in auto/diesel technology.
  • Obtain ASE within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 30 (15/15) credit or contact hours during the academic year, August through May, in various modalities as assigned.
  • Support student learning outcomes assessment processes by teaching toward approved student learning outcomes and assessing student performance.
  • Assist with curriculum and program review, revision, and assessment.
  • Aid in the development of new course materials and innovative instructional techniques that improve student learning.
  • Work closely with department peers and administrators to become an effective teacher and contributing member of the academic unit.
  • Attend and actively participate in College events, department and division meetings, college or Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) committees, and community service activities.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in field knowledge and pedagogies.
  • Complete training outlined in TMCC's Faculty Standards of Online Instruction, when and as needed.
  • Hold 5 office-hours per week.
  • Participate in student advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
  • Travel occasionally to community and workforce sites, conferences, events, and so on, per the needs of the program.
  • Communicate and interact in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, students, staff, and administration.
  • Comply with departmental administrative responsibilities and published college and NSHE policies and procedures.
  • Uphold the Mission, Vision, and Values of TMCC and perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with them.
  • Adhere to the published codes of NSHE as detailed in the Board of Regents Handbook.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethical Standards of the State of Nevada.
  • Other duties as assigned.
