The Diesel Fleet Mechanic is responsible to inspect, diagnose and perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repair of diesel semi-trucks and trailers. This role maintains adherence to company safety standards and ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent (GED)
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain essential mechanic tools and toolbox for daily tasks
  • Required to complete SpartanNash certification for safe driving skills for material handling equipment, tractors, and trailers (training provided)

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the preventive maintenance schedule to ensure equipment maintenance is completed on schedule
  • Meets with supervisor/lead to discuss work orders and priorities, proactively identifying any issues or conditions which might affect the operation of the equipment
  • Utilizes maintenance systems to ensure timely and accurate documentation of maintenance and repair work performed
  • Effectively collaborates with other departments as appropriate
  • Perform DOT inspections on tractors
  • Repair and replace air brake components on tractors
  • Replace starters, alternators, batteries on tractors
  • Diagnose and repair cooling systems on tractors
  • Service suspension components on tractors
  • Replace wheel seals and hubs on tractors
  • Perform minor electrical diagnostics on tractors
  • Service fifth wheels on tractors
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation for tractors
  • Repair and replace air brake components on trailers
  • Replace wheel seals and hub assemblies on trailers
  • Repair suspension and axle components on trailers
  • Perform trailer DOT inspections
  • Repair trailer electrical systems
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation for trailers
  • Diagnosing refrigeration performance issues
  • Replace sensors and electrical components
  • Repair starter and charging systems
  • Perform refrigerant leak detection and service
  • Calibrate temperature controls
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation
