About The Position

The Fleet Services Diesel Mechanic performs skilled equipment maintenance and repair work for the Nisqually Indian Tribe. Responsibilities include timely and thorough diagnosis and repair of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered automotive equipment and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential at all times.

Requirements

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) certifications.
  • Eight (8) years' experience in the diesel automotive repair/maintenance field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, such as tractors, front-end loaders, small engines, and other related equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair for Tribal equipment.
  • Perform skilled diagnostic repair procedures on standard and electronic ignition systems, along with computerized fuel injection, diesel fuel systems and equipment electrical systems.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic systems on a variety of heavy and light equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, install, diagnose, and repair, electrical system, hydraulic and air brake systems.
  • Repair, replace, and install parts, vane and piston pump, bearings, gears, and valves.
  • Operate a variety of diagnostic engines and other testing equipment.
  • Perform drilling, tapping threads, measuring, and simple welding to repair, design, and fabricate for equipment modifications.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, and drive lines.
  • Rebuild and replace air and hydraulic brake systems components.
  • Repair and service air conditioning and heating.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex open loop, closed loop, and load sense systems.
  • Diagnose a variety of equipment computers and computerized sensors; replace faulty components and parts as needed.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Customize mobile equipment.
  • Repair and mount accessories.
  • Train, demonstrate and instruct operators in the proper use, operation and general maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Train other diesel mechanics in proper diesel mechanical procedures.
  • Test and inspect completed work to assure proper performance and timely completion.
  • Perform safety inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
