About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Diener assists with autopsies, including preparation, support during procedures, and cleanup. Handles and maintains human remains before and after examination, ensuring proper care and compliance with protocols. Patient Preparation: Retrieves and transports decedents to the autopsy suite, verifies identity, prepares bodies for examination, sets up autopsy tables with instruments, and assists with photographing bodies and identifying features. Autopsy/Post-Mortem Examination: Assists Pathologist with post-mortem exams, including organ removal, weighing, and specimen collection for toxicology, histology, and microbiology. Operates specialized instruments, documents and labels samples, maintains sterile technique. Post-Autopsy Duties: Returns organs and sutures bodies, cleans and disinfects autopsy rooms and instruments, disposes of biohazardous waste, preserves specimens, documents activities under Pathologist supervision, and prepares bodies for release to funeral homes or families. Equipment Operation: Operates, maintains and troubleshoots all technical equipment according to approved standard operating procedures. Quality Control: Follows quality control policies, documents all related activities, and maintains records of instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance. Inventory Management: Manage inventory by rotating stock and checking supply expiration dates to ensure availability and compliance. Training: Assists with training of team members and students. Safety: Demonstrates knowledge and practice of all Atlantic Health and department safety procedures. Detail-oriented: Maintains accuracy in daily tasks. Organized: Manages workload efficiently and in a timely manner. Effective communicator: Communicates clearly with Practitioners, Clinicians, Pathologists, patients, Team Members, and other departments. Critical thinker: Uses sound judgment to assess situations and make decisions. Collaborative: Builds positive working relationships and contributes to a supportive team environment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Foreign education credentials require US equivalency documentation by an AHS approved agency
