This role requires a strong understanding of machining techniques, shop mathematics, and the properties of sheet metal under pressure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of die making or die repair experience.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of tool room equipment.
  • Machining skills, including ID-OD grinding to close tolerances.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments.
  • Strong foundation in shop math (geometry, algebra, and trigonometry).
  • Computer drafting skills.

  • Visualize the structure and function of dies and plan operations, applying knowledge of shop mathematics, machining, and assembly methods.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe tools and stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to machine parts to specifications.
  • Verify machined parts against specifications for accuracy.
  • Lift machined parts manually or using a hoist and position them on worktables for assembly.
  • Shape, smooth, and fit flat and contoured surfaces of die members and parts using hand tools (e.g., stones, files, and powered grinders).
  • Verify dimensions, clearances, and alignment of die members and parts using tools like dial indicators, gage blocks, thickness gages, and micrometers.
  • Dowels and bolt parts together using hand tools (e.g., hammers and wrenches).
  • Operate power presses, perform final adjustments and refinement operations on dies in press, and inspect piece part products to complete tryouts for Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIR).
