Position Overview As a Die Designer, youll play a vital role in designing extrusion dies and gages for inspecting parts for producing high-strength structural components used in aerospace applications worldwide. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field required, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in die design and aluminum extrusion processes; proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks required), with knowledge of machine and tool capabilities; FEA analysis experience preferred.
  • Physically able to stand, bend, reach, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • All UAC employees must know and follow job safety procedures, attend required health and safety trainings, proactively promote safety at work, and promptly report actual and potential accidents and injuries. Employees must understand the PPE and wear it properly.
  • UAC has a responsibility to comply with all applicable requirements set forth by International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR). This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder) Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure compliance with all safety standards and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for die design and extrusion process improvements.
  • Independently evaluate new die orders and replacement die requests, making recommendations that optimize production efficiency and cost.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise in die design, including analysis of complex extrusion challenges and implementation of innovative solutions.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in identifying potential die problems and determining corrective actions.
  • Develop and approve technical specifications, standards, and secondary tooling designs for stretching, rework, and forming operations; maintain inventory of specialized tooling.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Production teams to review pre-sale quote requests and customer prints, ensuring feasibility and alignment with engineering standards.
  • Supply strategic input for departmental planning, including process optimization and technology adoption.
  • Partner with Maintenance, Production, and Quality Assurance to provide technical drawings, designs, and engineering guidance.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects impacting operational performance.
  • Develop a working knowledge of shop floor process flow through direct exposure and apply that knowledge to improve die design, tooling performance, and manufacturability.
  • Perform other professional engineering duties as assigned.
