About The Position

Our Forest Park location is open 6 days a week offering early morning shifts beginning at 4:45AM to cater to our patients’ schedules. Patient sessions run from 5:30AM to 6:30PM. Our facility features 24 dialysis stations and a team consisting of 6 Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technicians and 2 Registered Nurses. Function as lead tech on the floor, working alongside the nurse manager and educator with training new employees, re-training staff and is a resource for the technicians. Performs duties related to patient care, such as initiating and terminating dialysis treatments, performing phlebotomy, maintaining records and responding to needs of patients that are treated in the outpatient dialysis setting. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support - American Red Cross
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC)
  • Certified Hemodialysis Practitioner/Technician (CHT) - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology (BONENT)
  • Certified Dialysis Technician (5 Years)
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Arranges and maintains equipment and supplies for performance of dialysis and other procedures, including preparation of Dialysate solutions.
  • Expert cannulator, access all new dialysis access and training co-workers on how to cannulate.
  • Works with Clinical coordinator on catheter removals.
  • Performs cannulation, initiates, and monitors and discontinues dialysis treatment.
  • Assessment of patient vascular access utilizing transonic machine or dialysis machine access flow.
  • Observes and monitors patient vital signs and significant dialysis treatment parameters.
  • Assesses patient signs and symptoms and provides treatment and intervention accordingly.
  • Completes laboratory studies, as ordered.
  • Serves as a resource for new nurses and techs on the floor.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information or changes in patient condition to the team leader.
  • Documents these results per units’ policies.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Serves as the clinics lead preceptor, training all new employees.
  • Transports, weighs and assists patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers and chairs.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines and responds to patient concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintains up to date training and certifications according to unit’s policies.
