About The Position

The Dialysis Technician II (PRN) at UChicago Medicine is responsible for initiating, monitoring, and terminating various dialysis therapies under the supervision of a dialysis RN. This role requires interaction with patients, critical thinking during treatments, and adherence to safety and infection control protocols. The technician will also be responsible for documentation and patient education regarding renal failure and healthy lifestyles.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• BLS Certification.
• Two or more years Dialysis Technician experience.
• 24-hour on-call responsibility is required on the Acute Dialysis Unit.
• Utilizes standard precautions and complies with infection control policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs dialysis and related treatments according to policy and procedures, and medical orders.
• Identifies urgent and emergent patient or technical complications and seeks appropriate assistance for resolution.
• Documents on a computer all findings and care rendered.
• Communicates pertinent findings to the appropriate health care team member.
• Utilizes standard precautions and complies with infection control policies.
• Accepts 24-hour on-call responsibility (Acute Dialysis Unit).
• Counsels and educates patients on living with renal failure and general healthy lifestyles.
• Attends continuing education programs and/or reads current material relevant to ESRD.
• On-call for HD (Hemodialysis), PD (Peritoneal Dialysis) & CVVHD (Continuous Veno-Venous Hemodialysis).
• Performs other duties as requested by senior management.
