The position is for a Dialysis Technician at the Red Lake Dialysis facility in Red Lake, MN. The job involves performing delegated nursing interventions to stable dialysis patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include initiating dialysis, monitoring patients during treatments, and ensuring the proper operation of dialysis equipment. The role requires knowledge of age-related patient care protocols and the ability to work with unique client populations. The technician will also prepare dialysis equipment, monitor treatment parameters, and respond to emergencies under the direction of a licensed nurse.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) is required.
  • One-year experience in a health care environment is preferred.
  • Dialysis experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills preferred.
  • Must possess or obtain certification as a Hemodialysis Technician within 18 months of hire.
  • If working in North Dakota, must be on the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) Registry.
  • If working in South Dakota, must register as Unlicensed Dialysis Technician once certification is received.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required through the American Heart.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated nursing interventions to stable dialysis patients under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments.
  • Monitor patients during treatments and document vital signs.
  • Prepare dialysis equipment according to the dialysis prescription.
  • Inspect access sites and perform cannulation of dialysis access.
  • Adjust blood flow rates and fluid removal rates according to policy.
  • Respond to dialysis-related emergencies, including CPR.
  • Administer medications as part of hemodialysis treatment.
  • Participate in the orientation and education of dialysis technicians.
