About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a a compassionate and skilled Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) to join our acute care hospital team. The Dialysis RN is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients with acute and chronic kidney failure requiring hemodialysis. This role involves working closely with nephrologists and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective dialysis treatments, patient education, and high-quality patient care. Qualifications:

Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in dialysis or nephrology nursing (acute or chronic dialysis experience preferred).
  • BLS and ACLS certification required - American Heart Association . Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Proficiency in operating dialysis machines and understanding of dialysis procedures.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Excellent patient assessment and clinical skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred.
  • Previous acute care or hospital dialysis experience.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for dialysis patients.
  • Administer hemodialysis treatments in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor patients for complications during dialysis treatments and respond promptly to adverse reactions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families on dialysis treatment, medication management, and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, treatment plans, and dialysis records.
  • Operate and maintain dialysis machines and related equipment, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives within the dialysis unit.
  • Provide emotional support and advocacy for patients and their families during treatment.
  • Stay current with best practices and advancements in nephrology nursing.
