About The Position

Coordinates operation of assigned components of dialysis program, including planning, implementing, monitoring, and improving quality of services, overseeing day-to-day operations, and maintaining fiscal accountability. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Requirements

  • 2 years of clinical nursing experience
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification from the American Heart Association within 1 year of hire
  • Professional Nursing Certification deemed by department required within one year of hire
  • Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Leadership abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Preceptor experience strongly preferred
  • One year of leadership and/or people management experience strongly preferred
  • Previous dialysis or apheresis experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in pediatrics, cardiac, neonatal, or critical care preferred
  • Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) through Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) upon hire. If not CDN upon hire, strongly preferred to achieve certification within 3 years of hire. If unable to meet CDN eligibility requirements, preferred to achieve Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) upon meeting eligibility requirements through PNCB.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily dialysis program operations.
  • Performs hemodialysis priming, emergency management, and bedside clinical care under the direction of the nephrologist.
  • Serves as technical expert for dialysis equipment, supplies, procedures, and policies.
  • Coordinates and schedules patient procedures.
  • Integrates values and language preferences into healthcare delivery through a culturally sensitive process.
  • Utilizes clinical decision support tools and resources to recognize issues, prioritize care, and modify plan of care as needed.
  • Utilizes appropriate documentation tools to record, measure, and retrieve healthcare data.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate for identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes resources to plan and provide nursing care that is safe, effective, and financially responsible.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for patient population in area.
  • Maintains competence to provide and/or assist with patient care.
  • Participates in planning, creating, and implementing dialysis programs.
  • Oversees supervision, onboarding, training, in-services, and competency assessment of dialysis staff.
  • Fosters professional development of others via constructive performance feedback, input, and coaching.
  • Promotes growth and development of leadership skills, accountability, clinical decision making, and problem-solving within self and others.
  • Pursues educational opportunities to enhance professional growth and clinical expertise for self and others.
  • Consults, contributes to, and coordinates care with interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
  • Ensures quality customer service and effective communication with all customers and coworkers.
  • Works with kidney transplant manager, dialysis manager and financial operations manager to develop and achieve departmental budget, goals, and charge reconciliation practices.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in supporting budget, productivity, and resource utilization.
  • Engages in ethical practices utilizing principles from the Code of Ethics for Nurses.
  • Maintains therapeutic and professional relationships with appropriate role boundaries.
  • Contributes to a supportive and healthy work environment.
  • May serve as unit leader on shift in absence of manager.
  • Removes or escalates barriers to appropriate leader.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and supply inventory.
  • Coordinates utilization of staff for effective and efficient services.
  • Participates in dialysis quality and identifies clinical process improvement opportunities.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and reports data for dialysis performance measures to dialysis quality team.
  • Reviews any adverse events associated with dialysis and partners with nephrology and dialysis quality for continuous assessment and improvement.
  • Provides consultation as required at daily huddles.
  • Integrates evidence and research findings into clinical judgement and nursing practice.
  • Participates in the achievement of organization and department goals.
  • Supports regulatory agency compliance and readiness.
  • Monitors activities within work environment to maintain a culture of safety.
