About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Dialysis Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work in patient care and a passion for helping individuals with kidney disease. As a Clinical Dialysis Technician, you will play a vital role in providing dialysis treatments and ensuring the well-being of our patients. Location: 6526 Second Avenue. Detroit, MI 48202 DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: 2nd Avenue Dialysis is a 48-station unit operating three shifts, six days a week handling complex patients from ages 20-90 years old. Many require assistance with mobility devices. Operating hours for patients are 5:00 am - 9:00 pm and team members 4:15 am to 9:00 pm. Employee schedules are made through several shift designs. Patients are medically managed by 9 Nephrologist and 2 Full Time Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) We have Registered Dietitians and Social Workers plus a Social Worker Tech that helps with concrete patient needs such as transportation or dietary needs. Unit staffing includes a Nurse Manager, 2 Full Time Nursing Supervisors, many Registered Nurses, and Dialysis Clinical Technicians. We have additional support staff of Biomed Techs and Dialysis Assistants overseen by a technical leader

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a dialysis technician training program preferred.
  • Certification as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) required within 18-months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dialysis treatments according to prescribed protocols and physician orders.
  • Monitor patients during dialysis treatment, assessing vital signs and responding to any changes in condition.
  • Set up and operate dialysis machines, including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Administer medications and intravenous fluids as prescribed by the physician.
  • Educate patients and their families about dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, and self-care techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including documenting treatment activities and patient progress.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards in the dialysis unit.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
