About The Position

DIAGNOSTICIAN QUALIFICATIONS: Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education. Must hold an appropriate Class A Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in , Collaborative Education, Special Education, School Psychometry, or Speech Language Pathology. Minimum of 5 years or experience in a special education classroom required. Minimum of 10 years or experience in a special education classroom preferred. Experience in administration and interpretation of standardized achievement, behavior rating, and adaptive behavior instruments. Experience using word processing and/or computer scoring programs in preparing assessment reports. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Valid Alabama driver’s license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO : Director of Special Education REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILSS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of psycho-educational testing, evaluation, intervention, and consultation in the area of special education. Skills to communicate and interpret assessments results to colleagues, parents, and students and to use the results for intervention, remediation and eligibility determination. Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities. Mobility and visual acuity to make on-site visits to schools for testing purposes. JOB GOALS: Measuring and evaluating human capabilities, behavior, and achievement. Interpreting the meaning of evaluative data for determining eligibility for services and the placement and education of students. Participating in the application of evaluative data to the development of appropriate learning experiences of students. Providing consultative services to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and others in interpreting and analyzing assessment date for use in planning learning environments, using intervention strategies, and classroom diagnostic techniques. Responsibilities

  • Administers and/or coordinates individual assessments required for initial student eligibility and re-evaluation in special education, gifted education.
  • Prepares evaluation reports that can be easily understood by school staff and parents.
  • Participates on the eligibility and IEP committees as needed to recommend assessments, interpret evaluation results, and assist in making decisions regarding the eligibility and provisions of services to students.
  • Interprets and discusses evaluation results for with parents/guardians.
  • Fosters cooperative working relationships with principals, teachers, and all other related personnel.
  • Keeps informed regarding research and educational testing practices in the areas of test administration, and test interpretation.
  • Attends conferences and/or conventions relating to special education services and achievement or behavioral evaluations to improve professional skills and knowledge.
  • Consults and collaborates with principals, teachers and counselors regarding the inclusion of students with disabilities in the regular class.
  • Adheres to school system rules, regulations and policies.
  • Adheres to established work schedules and reporting deadlines; and reports absences in a timely manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintains expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.
  • Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
  • Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepares all required reports within established timelines and maintains all appropriate records.
  • Serves as a mentor to special education teachers throughout the district.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
