Are you living your life's work? The Supervisor is responsible for the daily workflow for his/her assigned area to support quality patient care. Assists Radiology leadership in the day-to-day technical operation of the department in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The diagnostic supervisor will work collaboratively with the radiology associate director, radiology director, medical staff, and administration to ensure that quality patient care is delivered. Actively supervises the quality of care delivered to patients and participates in departmental QC and performance improvement activities. The Diagnostic Supervisor must follow physician's orders precisely, maintaining a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation to protect themselves and their patients from unnecessary exposure. Under the direction of a radiologist and/or surgeon, performs high quality diagnostic imaging examinations using ingenuity, initiative and independent judgment of patients in a safe and timely manner. Other tasks include approving and coordinating MyTime requests to ensure appropriate coverage, estar payroll, participating in the selection, orientation, evaluation, and coaching of staff. The supervisor also provides leadership to Staff Councils and other committees for modality-specific services and serves as a PACS Super User.

  • Assists radiology leadership with implementation of departmental policies and procedures that guide and support the provisions of services.
  • Demonstrates financial accountability. Provides input on cost savings and productivity enhancements.
  • Communicates regularly with staff on progress toward defined goals/required results. Is open to suggestions and new ideas from staff. Provides specific feedback, coaching and corrective action when necessary.

  • Monitors QA compliance objectives and ensuring that targets are achieved.
  • Assists radiology associate director with all regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in departmental and hospital information technologies such as PACS, PennChart and job specific related areas.
  • Performs all necessary preparations related to diagnostic x-ray procedures.
  • Obtains patient history, explains the procedure, and addresses any patient concerns prior to beginning the procedure.
  • Performs all necessary checks for accuracy of the prescription, precertification/authorization if required by individual insurance companies, PennChart order and patient identification.
  • Perform all procedures following the appropriate imaging protocols.
  • Compiles and reviews images, provides applicable comparison studies, and prepares documentation for interpretation.
  • Performs quality control testing as required.
  • Clean, adjust and perform routine maintenance on equipment stock and replenish supplies as required.
  • Responsible for coordinating all work assignments including staffing schedules and call schedules.
  • Assists in training and/or instruction of student technologist, new employees and ancillary personnel.
  • Participates in on-call coverage for the department, maintaining a 1 hour response time.
  • Responsible for ACR accreditation.
  • Leads the department to provide a high level of Employee Satisfaction.
  • Regularly meets with all employees to improve communication and to build productive relationships.
  • Continuously communicates to staff the importance of patient satisfaction, quality of care, and sound financial performance.
  • Analyze employee satisfaction data & identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage and eliminate process workarounds by appropriately and consistently sharing with organizational partners the issues, which require their attention.
  • Manage team and individual performance in alignment with the UPHS vision of service excellence.
  • Focus energies on collaborating in problem resolution rather than finding blame.
  • Manage patient/client complaints and provide timely follow up to ensure satisfaction.
  • Ensure that staff understand and demonstrate service recovery commitment.
  • Works with other clinical and entity leadership in developing programs, services, and initiatives to anticipate future customer needs.
  • In conjunction with all stakeholders involved in the patient care processes, institute operational changes based on data.
  • Communicate, reinforce, and update as necessary environment of care procedures.
  • Continuously improve unit/department operations to maintain and exceed internal/external regulatory compliance and achieve clinical excellence.
  • Participates in and supports patient safety goals and initiatives.
  • Communicate roles, accountabilities, and performance measures to all staff.
  • Identify unit quality metrics, review, and track monthly communicate to the staff, and develop/implement action plans to improve performance.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Identify the competencies required for each patient population that employee works with.
  • Assure that staff are competent to deal with age specific needs of their population.
  • Provides instruction to patients/caregivers.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient/employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities of their position.
  • Is expected to support and comply with all standards for UPHS licensure.
  • Completes and verifies payroll hours for individual employees.
  • Budget management for AU/Dept.
  • Review Financial Reports distributed to ensure all activity within an AU is expensed in the month.
  • Provide Accounting with accruals.
  • Preview monthly expense reports to detect errors/discrepancies and resolve issues.
  • Provide budget variance explanations to Radiology Administration.
  • Analyze and manage data as tool to manage expenses.
  • Ensure Requestor/Drafter understands Material Management Processes.
  • Proactively develops change management strategy for major organizational activities and events.
  • Implements change management strategy within Department and UPHS in alignment with UPHS objectives.
  • Manage routine and crisis communications throughout the entity/community as they arise.
  • ARRT Diagnostic Radiology (Required)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Associate of Arts or Science in Radiologic Technology Program Equivalent Experience.
  • 5+ years Supervisory experience in diagnostic x-ray.
