About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager of Imaging and Testing, provides expert and reliable testing to the Department of Ophthalmology’s patients and the medical staff’s educational and research needs.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED.
  • 1-2 years of diagnostic testing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology, eye anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Must exhibit professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone, and electronic.)
  • Ability to use computer software programs and systems.
  • Good analytical and judgment skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability of prolonged priods of walking, sitting, standing, stooping/kneeling, bending.
  • Close vision and ability to focus on computer screens and documents, distance vision, periopheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust vision focus.
  • Good use of hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Compliance with Departmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Mandatory Flu shot annually (based on department guidelines.)
  • Must be able to provide independent testing coverage in satellites, therefore reliable transportation is a necessity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing for patients including Humphrey visual field, OCT (optical coherence tomography), fundus photography, and a scan.
  • Assist with patient duties (dilating eyes, retrieving records, calling doctors, moving patients.)
  • Understand adverse medical complications associated with eye medications.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment.
  • Escort patients to and from various destinations; assist patients in and out of examination chairs.
  • Keep all work areas clean, neat and stocked; clean room after each patients and leave room ready for the next patient.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or practice.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with clerical and medical record duties.
  • Assist in training diagnostic testing personnel.
  • Troubleshoot the testing computer system.
  • Archive data on the server routinely.
  • Assess and repair or arrange for repair of photographic equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of teaching materials.
  • Understand, practice and promote the mission and philosophies of the Institute.
  • Other duties as assigned.
