About The Position

The Diagnostic Strategy Senior Director - AI will be responsible for crafting detailed commercial deployment plans for AI and multimodal diagnostic tools as part of international cross-functional teams. This role involves building novel internal capabilities and scalable processes for the commercial deployment of AI and multimodal patient-identification solutions across the oncology portfolio. The individual will provide day-to-day program oversight for AI-enabled and multimodal diagnostic projects, coaching and mentoring cross-functional team members. They will act as the internal lead of working teams, particularly in Oncology Data Science and AI, Commercial Digital Health, Regulatory/SaMD, Data Science, Precision Medicine, and other stakeholders for the technical, commercial, and corporate evaluation of AI and multimodal diagnostic strategy opportunities and their execution into the market. Additionally, the role includes designing, launching, and overseeing multiple AI/multimodal diagnostic collaborations and pilot programs with external partners, ensuring alignment with regulations and future market directions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years focused on AI-enabled and/or multimodal oncology biomarkers.
  • Experience establishing or scaling novel AI/multimodal diagnostic capabilities in a clinical implementation setting.
  • Doctorate, MD or equivalent education with expertise in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a closely-related AI field.
  • Proven knowledge of clinical diagnostic workflows across molecular, histopathology, and imaging modalities.
  • Thorough understanding of the diagnostics environment, including development and commercialization of diagnostic tests.
  • Broad knowledge of pharmaceutical and diagnostic company businesses and established external network of experts in the AI and multimodal biomarker space.
  • Knowledge of scientific, commercial, and financial evaluation techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills to ascertain relevant issues from large data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day program oversight for AI-enabled and multimodal diagnostic projects.
  • Act as internal lead of working teams, coordinating with various stakeholders for evaluation and execution of strategies.
  • Design, launch, and oversee multiple AI/multimodal diagnostic collaborations and pilot programs with external partners.
  • Collaborate with the broader AZ oncology diagnostics team to provide diagnostic inputs and strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with Global Diagnostic Partnerships, Marketing, Market Access, and Scientific Affairs colleagues.
  • Develop diagnostic strategic expertise in regional and local teams and remove barriers to future portfolio testing needs.
  • Establish external and internal networks for thought-leadership and engagement in diagnostic-related initiatives.
  • Accountable for ensuring strategic diagnostic opportunities are identified, evaluated, and presented effectively.
  • Interpret and synthesize data from various sources to build business cases.
  • Work with Diagnostic Partnerships and Business Development to identify partnership needs.
  • Ensure optimal hand-over of strategic projects to implementation teams.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with senior OBU colleagues and cross-functional teams.
  • Adhere to the AZ Code of Conduct, Standards, and SOPs, and comply with regulatory requirements.
