About The Position

This position is for an Optometrist within the Federal service, specifically targeting locations in North and South Dakota. The role requires a Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited program and a current, unrestricted license to practice optometry. The position is open for applications from January 31, 2025, to January 30, 2026. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position, which includes both paid and unpaid experiences, such as volunteer work. The job entails providing a full range of clinical optometric diagnosis and treatment for various vision dysfunctions and detecting and referring patients with ocular diseases.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited program.
  • Passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • For GS-12 level: One year completion of a residency program or one year of professional experience as an optometrist equivalent to GS-11 level.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical optometric diagnosis and treatment for prevalent types of vision dysfunctions.
  • Detect and refer patients with ocular diseases or systemic disease manifestations.
  • Maintain a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry.
  • Document duties and responsibilities in each position held, including total hours worked per week.
