About The Position

This position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, GA. Recruitment incentive MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Fort Benning is in the "Tri-Community" comprised of Columbus, Georgia; Fort Benning, Georgia; and Phoenix City, Alabama. Columbus (third-largest city in Georgia) is a growing community of 250,000. Besides being the home of the Best Army Installation in the World, Columbus houses the corporate headquarters of many leading companies. The stunning Florida gulf shores and Blue Ridge Mountains are only a few hours' drive.

Requirements

  • Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field.
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing mammography radiographic examinations and performing quality assurance procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
  • Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/ Mammography
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Screening Mammograms, Diagnostic Mammograms, QC/QA, Stereotactic biopsies, and needle localizations.
  • Performs technical duties with the Mammography Reporting System, Electronic Health System, and PACS.
  • Assures sterile supplies, special needles, wires, and other equipment are in working order.
  • Counsels patients before, during, and after procedures and communicate breast imaging needs with patients.
  • Documents extensive quality assurance procedures to ensure high quality testing.
  • Conducts administrative and mandatory training.
  • Assists radiologist with performing breast biopsies.
