About The Position

Diagnostic radiologic technologists perform procedures and examinations in hospitals or clinics under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers. The objective of the examinations and procedures is to produce radiographic studies that are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist prepare and administer contrast media and medications in accordance with State and Federal regulations. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist perform routine to moderately complex radiographic examination procedures. These exams are achieved by using diagnostic x-ray equipment such as fluoroscopic units and general diagnostic units. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist will assist the radiologist(s) in the less complex fluoroscopic examinations. Prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist(s) for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystogram, cholangiograms fistulagrams and arthrography and for the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the GI tract. In the case of injected contrast media, a patient consent form must be obtained, when appropriate. These procedures require the use of needles, syringes, intravenous contrast agents, barium, enema bags and drinking cups. Responsible to the radiologist(s) and supervisor(s) for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient dosage and reducing costs. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self. This is achieved using lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lined walls and collimation. As part of compliance with radiation safety regulations and guidelines the technologists/technicians must wear radiation exposure monitoring badge when in designated radiation areas. The incumbent must also be aware of and practice the safety policies/procedures of the medical center and participate in quality assurance activities as directed. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist performs image processing procedures such as loading and unloading cassettes on CR digitizers, adjusting image quality when necessary and printing images when required to provide adequate and proper processed radiologic examinations. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. Edits and when necessary, registers patients in the computerized Radiology Information System (RIS) as well as the work list management portion of the HIS-RIS interface.

  • Assist the radiologist(s) in the less complex fluoroscopic examinations.
  • Prepare contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist(s) for exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystogram, cholangiograms fistulagrams and arthrography and for the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the GI tract.
  • Obtain patient consent forms when appropriate for injected contrast media.
  • Ensure quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient dosage and reducing costs.
  • Practice radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self using lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lined walls and collimation.
  • Wear radiation exposure monitoring badge when in designated radiation areas.
  • Practice the safety policies/procedures of the medical center and participate in quality assurance activities as directed.
